1 on 1 Tournament Presented by Sprite Continues Tonight 🏀

Round 1 delivered exactly what this tournament is built for: pace, pride, and zero room to hide. We saw a shutout (Veronica Burton’s 11-0 statement), and a couple nail-biters, including Chelsea Gray’s 11-10 win over Natasha Cloud, Shakira Austin’s 12-10 battle with Dearica Hamby and Sonia Citron’s 12-10 win over Marina Mabrey.

Tonight, the action continues! Here’s the rundown:

Veronica Burton vs. Kelsey Mitchell
Burton opened the tournament by pitching an 11-0 shutout of Courtney Williams, making a loud case for “defense travels” even in 1 on 1. Mitchell advanced after a 12-3 win over Rachel Banham, putting points up in bunches.

Natisha Hiedeman vs. Kelsey Plum
Hiedeman is the ultimate spark plug, and has built an Unrivaled reputation as a fearless bench scorer who can flip a game’s energy fast. Plum is one of the league’s top producers this season (22.4 points per game) and a true three-level problem who can beat you with shot-making or playmaking.

Arike Ogunbowale vs. Paige Bueckers
Ogunbowale beat Brittney Sykes 11-2 in Round 1, a controlled advance that never tilted back. Bueckers advanced with a 12-5 win over Kate Martin, mixing footwork and touch to keep the scoring lane open all the way to the finish.

Jackie Young vs. Chelsea Gray
Young powered past Aziaha James 12-4 in Round 1, steady from the start and physical through the finish. Gray survived one of the tightest games of the round, edging Natasha Cloud 11-10 and advancing to the Second Round for the first time in her 1 on 1 career.

Aliyah Boston vs. Breanna Stewart
Boston makes her tournament debut, and she’s been as steady as anyone all season: 19.9 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game, while leading the league in total rebounds and total blocks. Stewie already shook off last year’s early exit by taking care of Li Yueru 11-6 in Round 1.

Shakira Austin vs. Aaliyah Edwards
Austin took a 12-10 win over Dearica Hamby in Round 1, delivering one of the most competitive finishes of the opening slate. Edwards advanced 11-8 over Dominique Malonga who jumped out early before Edwards closed with composure when it mattered.

Saniya Rivers vs. Allisha Gray
Both players make their tournament debut tonight. Rivers boasts the league’s single-game blocks record with six vs. Breeze on Jan. 9, where she also added 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Gray is coming in as one of the most proven scorers in the field, averaging 20 points per game this season for Mist, and a season-high 30 points (plus eight rebounds and four assists) vs. the Lunar Owls on Jan. 17.

Rae Burrell vs. Sonia Citron
Burrell advanced 12-9 over Rhyne Howard, a statement win in the bracket. Citron took a 12-10 win over Marina Mabrey, earning the right to keep rolling into Friday. This matchup features two-way energy on both sides, and players who already have proven they can close.
